This morning one of our Admin team members dropped off our goodie filled office Reverse Advent Calendar boxes to the Geelong headquarters of this worthy organisation who coordinate the supply and distribution of pantry and toiletry items to families in need over the Christmas season.
As the name suggests, the Reverse Advent Calendar concept is the opposite to the usual Xmas tradition where the aim is to receive a treat every day. In this case, it takes the focus off receiving and places it on giving to others. Participants start with an empty box and for 20 days in the lead up to Christmas one item of non-perishable food and toiletries are placed into the box. After 20 days your filled Reverse Advent Calendar is dropped to the collection hub in East Geelong where it is distributed by the Salvos to people in our immediate community who are experiencing food insecurity.
A simple but valuable way to help struggling families during what can be a very difficult and expensive time of year. Thanks to all our generous staff members who contributed to this worthy community initiative.
