Laser Scanning – Maribyrnong Railway Viaduct, Melbourne

April 18, 2020

Swanson Surveying was recently contracted to undertake a 3D laser scanning survey of the support pylon of the Maribyrnong Railway Viaduct in Keilor East, Melbourne. The information was used to provide structural dimensions and details for remediation works on the pier underneath the railway bridge. The extreme terrain and unstable ground underfoot provided for tricky working conditions, however, the team at Swanson Surveying were able to safely and accurately undertake a laser scanning survey to provide a high-density point cloud for delivery to our client.  The colourised point cloud & virtual site tour was delivered to our structural engineering clients, enabling them to gather the dimensions required for designing the additional steelwork required to strengthen the bridge off-site and allow the new steelwork to be erected onsite without any delays or disruptions to the interstate train network.

If you would like to understand how laser scanning technology can be used in your next project, please contact the team at Swanson Surveying.
